RBI Announces Treasury Bill Auction Details
The Reserve Bank of India has scheduled an upcoming auction for Government of India Treasury bills aimed at raising a cumulative notified amount of Rs 24,000 crore. The financial exercise encompasses three distinct tenures, offering investors various short-term deployment options backed by the central bank.
The auction structure is divided across three categories of Treasury bills with specific notified amounts:
- 91-Day Treasury Bills: Rs 9,000 crore
- 182-Day Treasury Bills: Rs 8,000 crore
- 364-Day Treasury Bills: Rs 7,000 crore
The entire sale process will be governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the General Notification issued by the Government of India on March 26, 2025, along with any subsequent amendments.
Auction Schedule and Bidding Timelines
The bidding process for the Treasury bills will take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Participants are required to submit their bids electronically through the Reserve Bank of India’s Core Banking Solution, known as the E-Kuber system. The designated timings vary by category, with non-competitive bids accepted from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, and competitive bids permitted between 10:30 am and 11:30 am on the same day.
The auction will follow a price-based format utilizing the multiple price method. Results of the auction will be declared on the same day, while successful bidders must complete their payments on Thursday, August 13, 2026, which marks the scheduled settlement date for all three instruments.
Participation Guidelines for Investors
Eligible entities such as State Governments, Union Territories with legislatures, designated Foreign Central Banks, eligible Provident Funds, and other specified institutions can participate in the auction on a non-competitive basis, with allocations kept outside the notified amount.
Individual retail investors are also permitted to participate on a non-competitive basis under a scheme that restricts their allocation to a maximum of 5 percent of the total notified amount. Retail participants can place their bids conveniently through the official Retail Direct portal.
In the rare event of a system failure, physical bids submitted in the prescribed format to the Public Debt Office will be accepted before the conclusion of the auction window. The central bank has also provided dedicated contact channels for technical difficulties and general auction-related queries.
