When a number of unlawful bettors tried to “fleece” visitors on Westminster Bridge in February, they might never ever have actually anticipated 2 Metropolitan policeman to appear impersonated Batman and Robin to apprehend them.
But as followers of the 1996 Only Fools and Horses Christmas Special will certainly understand, a vibrant duo of guys that combat criminal activity in cosplay outfits can show up at any moment, anywhere.
Unlike Delboy and Rodney, that unintentionally disrupted a burglary impersonated Batman and Robin while going to a costume celebration, the policeman purposely camouflaged themselves as the caped crusader and his partner in order to capture the offenders unawares.
At the moment, unlawful gaming gangs were targeting visitors on the bridge with video games referred to as the “three cups challenge” and “shell game”, cops stated. But since the neighborhood Met policemans came to be so popular to these gangs, the cops needed to think of “creative plans” to “deliver vengeance”.
Insp Darren Watson, that is in charge of neighborhood area policing in Lambeth North West and is currently “also known as Batman”, stated: “We know that two repeat offenders have been operating on Westminster Bridge and have come to recognise me and my team from our patrols.
“I knew that if we were going to catch them we would have to think outside the box, and then I remembered that I had Batman and Robin costumes to hand which could come in use.
“Although dressing up may not be the most conventional policing method, we were thrilled to see that in this case it worked perfectly and the team were able to get some great results, taking these people off the street and protecting tourists and Londoners from being fleeced.”
Eugen Stocia, 32, of no set address and Constica-Gherorghe Barbu, 53, of Herbert Road, Greenwich were apprehended on 15 February for supplying the centers to bet.
Barbu was founded guilty at Croydon magistrates court in February after being remanded by cops and fined ₤ 925.
Stocia was founded guilty in lack at Westminster magistrates court on 10 April after falling short to show up in court. A warrant is out for his apprehension.
