Williams informed BBC Radio Oxford’s The Dub podcast: “It’s going to be challenging because raising money to build anything in football is always a challenge.

“I think the reality is when things are going well economically from a global perspective, then sport tends to do very well and there will be no shortage of people who are making money in order to invest in sport and in football.

“The thing is with football, when things are going a little bit south economically, then football is one of those brilliantly stable industries that you would never say is recession-proof, but you would say it’s a global sport and there is still an enormous demand for it.

“Therefore, there’s then still an enormous demand for bricks and mortar, and physical assets which are less risky than somebody chucking it all into crypto.

“The people we are speaking to on a daily basis are enormously confident about how we will approach this.

“I get phone calls practically on a weekly basis saying ‘I know somebody who wants to invest in a stadium’.

“I’m very confident this is an attractive project for somebody who wants to invest in a brilliantly unique and fantastic stadium in England.”
