As stated in Nika Gilauri’s statement, the initiators of including his brother in this list are likely those who are and should be the real targets of these sanctions. In his opinion, “this would not have happened without the use of “useful idiots.’”
In addition, Nika Gilauri said that he contacted the US Congress and representatives of the future administration through his channels and is confident that this mistake will be corrected soon.
“I did not want to comment on the list of “Bidzina Ivanishvili’s enablers” published by Radio Liberty, where my brother is also mentioned, until the board of directors of Georgian Capital made a statement. This statement was made yesterday, where it is very clearly explained that the company’s board of directors (which consists entirely of European and American independent directors) expresses full confidence in Irakli Gilauri and “does not agree with any opinion according to which the government of the US or any other country may consider taking any action against him. It is also worth considering the fact that precisely because the shares of this company are traded on the London Stock Exchange, it has very strictly written rules of non-participation in any political process, which is sometimes incorrectly “translated” in Georgia – as if silence is a sign of consent.
