A Mumbai court on Thursday punished Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut to 15 days of straightforward jail time for character assassination, adhering to an issue by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya’s spouse,Medha Somaiya The Sewree court’s urban magistrate located the Rajya Sabha participant guilty under Indian Penal Code Section 500 (penalty for character assassination) and fined him Rs 25,000. Medha Somaiya, stood for by supporter Vivekanand Gupta, declared that Raut made ungrounded and derogatory accusations versus her and her other half.
She charged Raut of affirming their participation in a Rs 100 crore fraud pertaining to the building and construction and upkeep of public bathrooms under the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation’s territory. “The accused’s statements to the media are inherently defamatory. They were made to tarnish my reputation in the public eye,” her grievance specified.
