New Delhi: Vegetable costs fortify prices of veg and non-veg thalis in the month of October, as the price of a home-cooked veg thali rose 20 percent (year-on-year) while the price of a non-veg thali boosted 5 percent, according to a record onWednesday
The rise can be associated mainly to greater costs of veggies, which make up as long as 40 percent of a vegan thali price, according to the record by CRISIL Market Intelligence and Analytics.
“Tomato, potato and onion have all clocked sharp increases in price for varying reasons – excessive rainfall in September in key growing states that delayed arrival of kharif onion; crop damage for tomato amid strong festive demand; and depleting cold storage stocks of potato leading to a price spike,” stated Pushan Sharma, Director- Research, CRISIL Market Intelligence and Analytics.
In October, costs of onion and potato increased 46 percent and 51 percent on-year, specifically, as a result of reduced arrivals because of unrelenting rains in September.

“That said, we expect tomato prices to stabilise in November. Onion prices, too, should moderate with kharif arrivals in mandis. Potato, however, may take slightly longer to show a moderation in price,” the record stated.
The price of a non-veg thali, which had actually clocked on-year decreases for 12 successive months, likewise boosted 5 percent, damaging its aberration with the veg thali.
