Relevant companies on standby in Selangor to handle high trend and downpour

SHAH ALAM: All state and area companies associated with technological issues and rescue procedures get on standby in dealing with both the high-tide sensation and Northeast Monsoon period in Selangor, claims state exco Mohd Najwan Halimi.

“The Selangor Disaster Management Committee held a meeting on Oct 2 to assess the preparedness of agencies on-ground in dealing with the high-tide phenomenon,” he stated of the case that is anticipated to strike Selangor’s seaside locations from Oct 17 to Oct 20.

“During the meeting, the committee also discussed the preparations of agencies for the Northeast Monsoon season. The details of this meeting were presented to the state executive council during the Selangor Economic Action Meeting on Oct 10.”

Mohd Najwan, the state exec councillor accountable of calamity administration, stated that all District Disaster Management Committees are prepared to take care of the high-tide sensation.

“Technical agencies, such as the Drainage and Irrigation Department, have conducted regular patrols along the coastline to ensure the flood barriers are in good condition,” he stated in a press declaration on Wednesday (Oct 16).

“The department is ready to deploy mobile pumps to hotspot areas should there be incidents of ‘stagnant flooding’ (banjir termenung). State-owned subsidiaries are willing to loan their pumps if there is a need for additional pumps.

“All District Disaster Operation Control Centres have been activated. Announcements about the high-tide phenomenon have been made through various mediums.

“The police, Fire and Rescue Department and Malaysian Civil Defence Force will also deploy their teams to monitor and assess risks during the high-tide period.

“These preparations also take into account the Northeast Monsoon season, which is expected to hit the country earlier this year,” stated Mohd Najwan of the downpour that is anticipated to begin in very early November and last up until March 2025.
