PETALING JAYA: A locals’ union is prompting the Kuala Lumpur mayor to give National Heritage Trust (Amanah Warisan Negara) condition for long-term possession of the arrive on which Taman Tugu rests.
“Taman Tugu is currently under a 99-year lease. We hope that the land will be granted permanent status so that this heritage can be preserved for future generations,” stated Kuala Lumpur Residents Action for Sustainable Development Association (KLRA+SD) in a message on social media sites.
“We urge Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to strive towards improving the process of de-gazetting public land.
“We feel the process needs to be more transparent and involve city folk by providing a more comprehensive overview, so that city folk can assess the justification for the de-gazettement,” the organization stated.
KLRA+SD stated a team making up KLRA+SD board participants and its Redevelopment Task Force were welcomed to satisfy Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif to review concerns encountered by citizens.
The conference was hung on Oct 29 mid-day at the mayor’s workplace at Menara DBKL, Kuala Lumpur.
“During the meeting, our Redevelopment Task Force informed the mayor about the methods being used by parties claiming to represent developers and were pressuring city folk into signing redevelopment consent forms,” stated KLRA+SD.
“Representatives from areas identified by DBKL (as potential redevelopment sites) were also present to inform Maimunah about the challenges they are facing.
“Other issues raised during the meeting included protection of public land and green spaces and the negative experiences of several areas currently undergoing redevelopment.”
KLRA+SD stated Maimunah had actually ensured them that DBKL would certainly prepare a record pertaining to the concerns highlighted to her which they would certainly exist by DBKL at a pertinent system.
