Council takes 2 equines maintained in unlawful shed at Batu Ferringhi

2 equines were taken in a morning procedure at Batu Ferringhi by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to suppress horseback riding tasks.

Three equines were located in a prohibited shed on state land along Batu on Thursday (Sept 5) throughout a check by the regional council.

MBPP enforcement supervisor Noorazrein Noorazlan Ong stated the procedure was carried out adhering to an issue that equines were being maintained there.

“The state government announced that horseback riding activities would be banned along Batu Ferringhi from Sept 1.

“This is a follow-up on the statement and we recognized this unlawful shed.

“There is no proper drainage and the waste is going into the river next to it.

“This is unlawful and a notification was previously provided to the proprietor on July 19 to relocate,” he told a press conference at the scene.

Noorazrein said the notice gave ample time for the horse owner to take down the shed and move the animals.

“They were still below so we have actually currently done something about it to destroy the shed and take the equines,” he said.

However, it is learnt that the owner arrived during the demolition and took one horse away.

“We will certainly take the various other 2 equines to the MBPP vet centre for assessment,” Noorazrein said.

Earlier, state local government, town and country development committee chairman Jason H’ng said the ban on horseback riding followed several complaints from hotels and the public, particularly about safety and cleanliness in the area.

“Other elements were additionally taken into consideration, consisting of pet well-being and the unlawful building and construction of frameworks by those running these tasks,” he stated.
