Basmati Exports Interrupted by West Asia Problem

Indian Rice Exports Face Gulf Problem Headwinds

New Delhi: Roughly 400, 000 metric tonnes of Indian basmati rice are presently delayed at ports and en route because of intensifying stress in the Gulf area, the All India Rice Exporters’ Organization (AIREA) reported.

  • Stuck Shipments: 200, 000 tonnes at Indian ports, 200, 000 en route.
  • Payment Uncertainty: Exporters fear potential losses amid local instability.
  • Government Response: The Business Ministry has formed an Inter-Ministerial Team to check and alleviate the effect on exports and imports.
  • Market Volatility: The Indian Rice Merchants’ Federation (IREF) expects heightened volatility in basmati prices.

Exporters are advised to prevent brand-new CIF dedications for impacted destinations.
