Tributes are putting for a much-loved Australian mother-of-three that passed away in a scary collision on Tuesday night after she blew up of her motorcycle and hit a parked auto.
Mel Copeland, 39, was riding her bike in Adelaide’s north when she blew up and hit the fixed car right before 10pm on a stretch of country roadway that is coming to be progressively well-known.
CCTV video footage caught the damaging minutes leading up to the crash in Elizabeth Downs, as stunned locals listened to a “loud bang” and hurried from their homes to aid. Despite their initiatives, absolutely nothing can be done to conserve her.
Locals define scary scene
It’s recognized Copeland lived close-by to where she inevitably shed her real-time, with one regional explaining their complication as the sound of the collision resembled with the residential area.
“I didn’t know what it was,” Adelaide guy Garry McElroy informed 7News. “[I] walked over to her, [but] I couldn’t do nothing. Couldn’t do nothing at all — poor lady.
“It just takes 2 secs of your life and after that you’re gone.”
Local residents in Elizabeth Downs have voiced concerns about the safety of the road in question, Midway Road, citing frequent incidents of dangerous driving and speeding.
Copeland’s death is the 17th on the roads in South Australia in 2025, and the third motorcyclist to lose their life. By this time last year, that toll sat at 14.
Across Australia, motorcycle deaths hit an alarming 35-year high last year. Motorbike fatalities increased from 252 in 2023 to 278 in 2024 – a rise of 10.3 per cent – making last year the deadliest calendar year for motorcycle riders since 1989.
Overall, 2024 was the deadliest on Australian roads in over a decade, with authorities around the country scrambling to combat the grisly trend.
Daughter, friends pay tribute to motorcycling mum
Loved ones and family members have taken to social media to pay tribute to the mother after the sudden tragedy.
“Not enough words will ever explain the hole left in my heart,” the victim’s daughter wrote online. “I miss you mummy and I love you so much.”
Friends also publicly mourned the passing.
“Was only earlier this week [when I said I] wanted us three to go for a ride together. My heart and all my prayers go out to Mel and family,” one friend posted.
“Rest in peace, beautiful, you will be forever missed,” another said. “Ride free gorgeous girl — forever missed,” a third wrote.
An investigation is currently under way to determine the exact cause of the crash, including the role of speed.
