Council responds to resident’s bin complaint

Ideally, bins should be placed at least one metre away from any cars to ensure they can be collected safely, Yahoo was told by council. In the video, it appears this space was given — at least on the day the woman filmed.

“Our waste contractor will do their best to empty all bins, even if they are behind parked cars. In some circumstances, if they are unable to gain access to the bins they cannot be collected,” council said.

“Our contractor will return to collect the bin if they are advised of a missed bin collection. Residents can phone or lodge a missed bin collection form online.”

City of West Torrens Council first introduced the bin stickers in 2018. They’re designed for local residents to place on their bins to help deter people from parking within one metre on collection day. Last year, 86 stickers were provided to local residents who had requested them. To date in 2024, 51 stickers have been issued.
