Aussie mum stunned by totally free $10 coupon from Woolworths employee

When she asked why he was handing out the vouchers, he said he was directed by his boss to give them out.

Other shoppers also reported receiving the $10 vouchers in both Woolworths and Big W stores in the northern NSW and southeast Queensland areas.

“Yes I got one today at my local. It was nice and unexpected,” another added.

“I got one and was so emotional,” a woman said. “I was doing the shop to replenish all the food that got spoilt after the cyclone and power outages. I was ever so grateful after a particularly horrendous start to 2025. The man didn’t realise just how much that little act could mean.”

Another customer mentioned it was a “nice surprise” after an expensive shop to replace the contents of their freezer after Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

As it turns out, the timing of the vouchers was not random but a gesture from the supermarket giant to those affected by the cyclone. The wild weather system caused flooding, severe winds and power outages to more than 300,000 properties over the weekend of March 8 and 9.

According to insurance group IAG, about a third of property claims from Cyclone Alfred were for food spoilage.

A Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo the vouchers were a small way to treat their customers after the storm forced their stores to close.

“We recognize Cyclone Alfred was a difficult duration for our clients,” the spokesperson said.

“As a small gesture of thanks for their understanding during the disruption in our store operations, some of our stores have been handing out e-gift cards to customers over the weekend.”

Chantelle claimed she made use of the coupon quickly on her grocery stores for supper.

“My daughter and I skipped out of Woolies on a bit of a high. It’s nice when nice things happenâ€Ĥ changes the way you see the world, even only for a little while,” she claimed.
