A 34-year-old guy from Lynbrook in Melbourne’s south-east is confronting one decade behind bars after attempting to “bulk port” 86 mobile numbers to an additional telco.
The event took place in July in 2015, and was found by the telco, which was not called.
The telco videotaped 193 affirmed port-in efforts associating with 86 mobile numbers signed up with various other service providers.
Of those, the Australian Federal Police alleges that 44 were successfully ported over “without the rightful owners’ consent.”
“The AFP is working to identify victims and procure statements from those allegedly affected,” it stated in a declaration.
Once a fraudster is in control of a mobile number, they can utilize it to bypass multi-factor verification setups to checking account and various other delicate info.
Police stated they confiscated things from the home of the guy, “including several mobile phones, a desktop computer, SIM cards and suspected drug items, which will be subject to further forensic analysis.”
