A person has been charged with involvement in an alleged enterprise e-mail compromise (BEC) rip-off that price a Sydney hospital $2 million.
The 49-year-old man’s house in Yagoona, western Sydney, was raided yesterday following a number of alleged cases of BEC fraud concentrating on the hospital in Burwood in September.
He was charged with recklessly coping with proceeds of crime greater than $5000 and refused bail.
NSW Police declined to disclose the total title of the hospital.
Detectives connected to state crime command’s cybercrime squad established Strike Force Millbon to research the alleged BEC fraud scheme.
Detective Superintendent Matt Craft, commander of the cybercrime squad, stated the pressure is seeing a rise in e-mail fraud concentrating on massive companies throughout NSW.
“These criminals are targeting all members of the community, particularly businesses and are using more elaborate and sophisticated ways to scam the general public,” he added.
The mostly seen BEC scams are invoices despatched to companies with altered fee particulars.
