The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will officially rebrand myGovID to myID in mid-November, regarding a year after it obtained the financing to do so.
The ATO verified the timeline for the rebrand of the electronic identification application on Friday.
The tax obligation workplace obtained $11.5 million in the mid-year financial and monetary expectation (MYEFO) at the end of 2023 [pdf] to supply the rebrand.
The brand-new name and logo design surfaced in March of this year when the ATO related to hallmark a myID name and logo design.
“The rename aims to resolve confusion between the myGovID app and myGov, following a recommendation from the myGov user audit,” the ATO said in a statement.
The customer audit had actually recommended that the federal government “consider merging the front ends of myGov and myGovID into a single mobile app” to “resolve widely aired confusion between the two apps”.
Recognising this can “be a costly exercise”, it advanced an option to “rebrand myGovID, positioning it as a distinctly separate government offering to myGov.”
Separately, the federal government suggested the rebrand “also reflects the additional ways … to use your Digital ID in the future for more government services and, eventually, private sector services”, and “reflects the community’s understanding of Digital ID.”
The federal government remains in the procedure of attempting to reboot myGov, seeing it as underutilised.
The rebrand of myGovID is readied to be pressed as an upgrade with the different application shops in November.
“Existing users will not need to set up a new myID,” the ATO stated.
