There’s something fairly wonderful regarding a basic cake baked in your home by, or for, a person you like. Some of my fondest memories in the cooking area are of cooking, side-by-side, with my mum– constantly simply a dish and whisk, absolutely nothing fancy. And currently it’s something I finish with, and for, my very own kids.
For me, home cooking is an act of love and kindness and this blackberry and coffee hazelnut cake is no exemption. If you like, offer the cake with a glob of creme fraiche and additional blackberries, although it’s actually great simply by itself with a cleaning of topping sugar.
