However, health insurance comparison site iSelect discovered earlier this month that a staggering 86 per cent of Aussies hadn’t used all their extras before the deadline.

A further one in five hadn’t used any extras all year and 12 per cent aren’t sure if they’ve used them.

“Many Aussie families could potentially be missing out on hundreds or thousands of dollars a year in unused extras benefits,” Andres Gutierrez, iSelect general manager, said.

The most popular extras policies listed on iSelect have around $1,750 in benefits that will be going to waste if you don’t take advantage of them.
